Mangaluru: The 277th installment of Mandd Sobhann’s Monthly Theatre Series at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, was a night to remember as nine-year-old Alani Leora D’Souza mesmerized the audience with her musical talent on January 5.
In a packed amphitheater, Alani performed nine melodious songs composed by legendary Konkani artists such as Chafra D’Costa, Wilfy Rebimbus, Claude D’Souza, and Eric Ozario, showcasing her remarkable vocal range and love for Konkani music. The event marked a step forward in preserving Konkani traditions, with Alani receiving the symbolic ‘Gumatt’ instrument from Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, as encouragement to carry forward the legacy.
Music Director Mavish led an exceptional band featuring Sachin Sequeira on drums, Jason D’Souza on lead guitar, Ashwin Correa on bass guitar, Shawn Braslin on violin, and Ashwil Colaco on keyboard. Alani’s performance was supported by her trainer Shilpa Cutinha, young vocalist Arvin D’Cunha, and the Blue Angels Choir.
The evening also featured the unveiling of the banner for Mandd Sobhann’s silver jubilee play, Sardar Simanv, by Ronald Mendonca, Chairman of Kalaangann. Dubai-based philanthropist Vijay D’Souza inaugurated the event.
The night ended with mementos presented by Alani’s mother, Lolita Saldanha, to key contributors, while her father, Ajay Glen D’Souza, expressed heartfelt gratitude.
