Mangaluru: A groundbreaking research paper titled ‘Optimum Web Stiffener for the Buckling Stability of Web Perforated Cold-formed Steel Storage Rack Columns’ was recently presented at the prestigious Structural Stability and Research Council (SSRC) 2025 conference in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
Authored by Amoke Shabhari, a research scholar, and Dr. J Vijaya Vengadesh Kumar, assistant professor in the civil engineering department at NITK Surathkal, the paper was among just 49 selected from around the world. The study introduces a novel approach to improving the buckling resistance of cold-formed steel storage rack columns—an essential component in modern structural systems.
The paper was lauded for both its technical innovation and its practical implications, reinforcing NITK Surathkal’s reputation as a center of excellence in engineering research. Amoke Shabhari was the only student from India to present at SSRC 2025, standing alongside three senior professors representing Indian academia.
This global recognition not only highlights Shabhari’s individual brilliance but also reflects the institute’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge research. The achievement underscores India’s growing footprint in structural engineering and its potential to influence global best practices in infrastructure design.
