Odisha Labourer Injured in Bike Accident; Denied Care at Wenlock Hospital

A daily wage labourer from Odisha, Krishna (27), suffered severe abdominal injuries after being hit by a bike under the Kota police station limits. Social worker Vishu Ambalpady quickly came to his aid and ensured he received timely medical attention.

The injured youth was first taken to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where he received initial first aid. However, the doctors referred him to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment. Upon arrival, it was found that the surgery department at Wenlock Hospital was non-operational, and the hospital staff sent Krishna away without providing any alternative medical arrangements.

Frustrated by the lack of care, Vishu Shetty admitted Krishna to a private hospital in Manipal, where he was finally given the necessary medical treatment.

Vishu Shetty expressed his disappointment, stating, “If Wenlock Hospital’s surgery department was unavailable, it should have been communicated to the public through official notifications. The hospital should have shown more compassion and arranged for alternative care. It is utterly unacceptable to put a critically ill patient’s life at risk due to such negligence.”
