Mangaluru: A 38-year-old woman has become a victim of cyber fraud, losing ₹2,19,500 through unauthorized transactions on her credit cards.
Vasudha Gopalakrishna Shenoy, spouse of Gopalakrishna Shenoy, who serves as a Manager at a Belthangady-based bank, lodged a complaint detailing the incident. She received a text message containing a link to “interviewshine.co.in” on her mobile device. The moment she tapped the link, her Gmail account and Amazon application were compromised.
Subsequently, fraudulent withdrawals were carried out using her bank credit cards, Amazon pay cards, and other financial instruments linked to her accounts. The total loss amounted to ₹2,19,500, with notifications of these transactions appearing on her phone.
Realizing she had been duped, she reported the matter to the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) police station. Authorities have filed a case under Sections 66(D) of the IT Act, along with Sections 318(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
This incident highlights the growing threat of online scams and the need for heightened cybersecurity awareness. Users are urged to exercise caution while clicking on unknown links and to enable two-factor authentication on their accounts to prevent unauthorized access.
