In a remarkable initiative during the Yakshadhruva Patla Decennial Celebration 2025, held at Adyar Garden on Sunday, 2,158 artistes from Yakshagana, theatre, Daivaradhane, and Kambala backgrounds were granted postal accident insurance. The event, organized by the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust, ensured each artist a cover of ₹10 lakh.

The entire insurance premium was borne by the Patla Foundation. Around 150 personnel from the Mangaluru postal division meticulously managed the program, according to a press note from the department. This marks the third consecutive year of the postal department’s collaboration with Yaksha Sambhrama, with this year setting a record by issuing insurance to over 2,000 artistes in one day.

An added highlight was the instant issuance of policy documents, printed on-site for all the beneficiaries. The accident insurance plan is a joint offering from India Post Payments Bank, India Post, and Reliance Insurance, providing ₹10 lakh coverage, hospital expense benefits, and education fee reimbursement—all at a yearly premium of just ₹550.

This year’s sponsorship by the Trust amounted to nearly ₹11.9 lakh. Patla Satish Shetty, the founding president of the Trust, who initiated this service, was felicitated by Senior Superintendent M Sudhakar Mallya on behalf of the postal division.

As per last year’s policies, ₹2.8 lakh has already been disbursed for medical claims to nine artistes. Compensation claims of ₹10 lakh each for three deceased artistes are currently being processed.
