A conflict regarding parking arrangements for the 108 emergency ambulance at Sullia Taluk Public Hospital has escalated, allegedly resulting in the refusal to transport a patient to Mangaluru on Monday.

The trouble began with the addition of a new ambulance to the hospital, which necessitated space in the hospital shed. This situation left the 108 ambulance without a designated parking area, forcing it to park on the roadside or near the hospital canteen. The staff operating the 108 ambulance had previously requested proper parking and resting facilities.

On Monday, when a call was made for the 108 service to transport a patient from Sullia Hospital to Mangaluru, the central office reportedly refused to deploy the local ambulance. As a result, another ambulance from the hospital was utilized for the patient’s transport. As tensions mount, local leaders have urged swift action from authorities, and higher officials are said to have instructed the hospital to resolve the issue.

“Family members of a patient informed us that the 108 ambulance service declined to take the patient to Mangaluru on Monday morning. An alternative ambulance was arranged, and later, another patient was transported using the 108 service. We are unclear about the reasons and have notified higher authorities regarding this matter,” stated Dr. Karunakar, the administrative medical officer of Sullia Taluk Public Hospital.
