Mangaluru: In a spirited initiative to celebrate the upcoming eighth anniversary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Mangalore GST Commissionerate teamed up with the FIT India Campaign to host a vibrant cycle marathon on Sunday. Themed ‘GST: Simplifying Taxes; Empowering Citizens’, the event symbolised both fitness and financial awareness.
Commissioner of Central Tax and CGST, Mangaluru, S Keshava Narayan Reddy, flagged off the ride from the Central Revenue Building in Attavar. He was joined by key officials, including Additional Commissioner Vaibhav Kiran Pagare, assistant commissioners, and current and retired GST and Customs personnel.
The Mangalore Cycle Club, headed by president Anil Shet, participated enthusiastically, alongside representatives from local business associations. The event’s dual aim was to foster environmental consciousness through cycling and spread awareness about GST’s transformative impact on India’s tax landscape.
Participants highlighted several citizen-friendly measures initiated under GST, such as electronic invoicing, quicker refunds, simplified procedures, and the role of the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). These reforms have made tax compliance more accessible and improved operational ease for businesses.
Since its introduction on July 1, 2017, GST has unified numerous indirect taxes into a single framework, enhancing transparency and efficiency in tax collection. The cycle marathon celebrated these achievements, reinforcing the message that a simplified tax system benefits all.
The event successfully merged health, sustainability, and financial literacy, setting the tone for the upcoming GST Day festivities.
