Mangaluru: BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath has come down heavily on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of placing an unfair financial burden on the public by allegedly collecting funds from citizens’ current accounts to finance pensions and gratuities.

Speaking at a press meet, Kamath said, “Providing pensions is acceptable, but the government must bear the cost—not the people. During our tenure, we managed pensions without passing the load onto citizens. But this government is indulging in public loot.”

He also took a dig at the government’s claim that the directive wasn’t issued by them, calling it immature and irresponsible. Kamath cited the High Court’s criticism of the ₹10,000 smart meter charges—when such meters are available for just ₹900—as another example of the current administration’s alleged mismanagement and negligence.

“Offering free electricity while silently extracting money elsewhere is nothing but deceit,” Kamath added, expressing frustration over the government’s inconsistent policies.

Raising regional concerns, he further stated that sand and red stone supply issues have worsened and accused the Congress government of neglecting the people of Dakshina Kannada.

Kamath was joined by local BJP leaders including Ramesh Kandettu, Ramesh Hegde, Lallesh Kumar, and Muruli Hosamajalu, all of whom echoed his concerns and called for transparency and accountability from the ruling government.
