Permannur witnessed a strong show of community spirit on August 17, as a blood donation camp was held with the support of multiple local organisations. The event was jointly organised by the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R), Mangalore South Varado, Permannur unit, SSVP Youth unit, Lions Club, and Leo Club Permannur, in collaboration with Fr Muller’s Hospital.
The programme began with a prayer song by SSVP members, followed by a welcome address from Tressy Rodrigues, secretary of the Catholic Sabha Varado. The event was chaired by Fr Jose Vaz, vicar of Mangalore South, while Fr Cyprian Pinto, spiritual director, inaugurated the camp and delivered an inspiring message.
Dr Abhay Nayak from Fr Muller’s Hospital Blood Bank highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and its role in saving lives. Melvin C D’Souza, president of the Permannur unit, proposed the vote of thanks.
Dignitaries present included Dolphy D’Souza, president of Catholic Sabha Mangalore South Varado; Wishart D’Sa, president of SSVP Permannur unit; Lion Cecilia Montero, president of Lions Club Permannur; and Arun D’Souza, vice president of the Parish Council.
The camp saw 59 donors come forward to contribute blood, reflecting a strong sense of social responsibility within the community. The programme was smoothly coordinated by Rishal D’Souza.
