A postgraduate student from a private medical college in Deralakatte has been taken into custody by the Ullal police for orchestrating a hoax bomb threat to avoid an academic seminar. Shockingly, the accused, Chalasani Monika Choudhary, who initially posed as the complainant, was found to be the mastermind behind the threat.
Hailing from North India, Monika was scheduled to present a seminar on May 4 as part of her PG curriculum. Instead of fulfilling the requirement, she fabricated a bomb threat story, claiming she had received threatening phone calls. Based on her account, the college advised her to lodge a formal complaint, which she did at Ullal police station.
Police, treating her as the victim, launched a thorough investigation. However, discrepancies emerged in her statements. They soon uncovered that Monika was still attending regular classes and was expected to deliver her seminar on the same day.
Delving deeper, authorities discovered that Monika had texted a friend in Hyderabad, instructing him to call the hospital’s landline and make a threat. Unaware of the true reason, the friend—an IT professional—complied. Monika then declared it a bomb threat, inciting panic within the institution.
The bomb disposal unit and Ullal police conducted an extensive search of the premises, but no explosives were found, confirming it was a hoax.
Monika has been charged with furnishing false information and causing public alarm. The investigation remains ongoing.
