Mangaluru – Thousands of students across Karnataka are preparing to take the PGCET for MBA and MCA courses on June 22, despite overlapping end-semester exams at several state universities. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has declined requests to change the date.
A total of 33,475 candidates are registered for MBA and 18,743 for MCA, but many are also appearing for undergraduate final exams, leading to significant scheduling stress. “There will be no change. With over 65 universities in the state, exams happen throughout the year. We will conduct the PGCET on Sunday, June 22,” said Prasanna H, KEA Executive Director.
Amidst this, students and faculty have launched an online petition through change.org, urging KEA to postpone the test. Over 4,300 signatures were gathered in under two days.
Current university exam timetables show overlaps:
-
Bangalore University: BCA ends June 16, BCom June 27, BA June 21, BSc July 1
Mangalore University: BCA ends June 20, BA on July 15, BCom and BSc continue till June 30
Similar schedules persist in Mysore and other universities
A final-year BCA student said, “We’re torn between preparing for degree exams and PGCET. The syllabi are completely different.” Another BBA candidate echoed concerns about juggling two intensive preparations.
The petition argues this conflict could deny many students the chance to appear for the PGCET, affecting their higher education aspirations and causing significant stress.
