Pilikula Tigress ‘Rani’ Welcomes Two New Cubs
Mangaluru: In a delightful development, 14-year-old tigress ‘Rani’ at Pilikula Biological Park has given birth to two healthy cubs, Park Director H. Jayaprakash Bhandary announced. Rani, already renowned for setting a record with five cubs in 2016, had three more in 2021. With this latest addition, the park’s tiger population has grown to 10.
The park now houses four male tigers and four females, with the cubs’ genders to be determined after two months. Special care is being given to the mother and her cubs, ensuring they remain healthy. “The tigress is being provided with nutritious food and health supplements to aid her recovery and nursing,” said the director.
Rani was brought to Pilikula through an animal exchange program in 2016 from Bannerghatta Biological Park, in exchange for a male tiger. This collaboration continues to contribute to conservation efforts and population management.
To ensure the cubs’ well-being, vaccinations will begin at one and a half months of age, a critical period for their health. Until then, access to the tiger enclosure is restricted to essential personnel only.
The addition of these two cubs further enhances Pilikula Biological Park’s reputation as a hub for wildlife conservation and breeding programs.
