Udupi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s itinerary for his visit to Udupi on Friday has undergone notable changes, with the Prime Minister now expected to arrive 40 minutes earlier than originally planned. The revised schedule has prompted intensified security arrangements and a full-scale rehearsal across key locations in the district.

PM to arrive early at Mangaluru airport

According to the updated itinerary, the Prime Minister will land at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) and reach the Adi Udupi helipad by 11 a.m. This advancement in schedule has led officials to adjust traffic control measures, route preparations, and security deployment to ensure a smooth and secure visit.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar confirmed the revised timings and stated that all units involved in the VVIP movement have been notified about the changes.

Road show from Adi Udupi to Sri Krishna Mutt

Following his arrival, the Prime Minister will participate in a road show from 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The route will pass through major arterial roads of Udupi, allowing the public to greet the Prime Minister as his convoy moves toward Sri Krishna Mutt.

Officials said the road show is expected to draw a large crowd, given the cultural and religious significance of the visit. Traffic restrictions will be in place along the designated stretch during this period.

Visit to Sri Krishna Mutt

Soon after the road show, the Prime Minister will arrive at Sri Krishna Mutt, one of the most revered spiritual centres of coastal Karnataka. Modi is scheduled to spend time at the mutt before departing from Udupi at 1 p.m.

The visit holds special significance as the Prime Minister will be attending the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme—a mass recital involving thousands of participants from various sections of society.

Full-scale rehearsal conducted

In preparation for the VVIP movement, security forces and the state police conducted an extensive rehearsal on Thursday morning. The mock drill covered all critical points, including the Adi Udupi helipad, the road show route, Sri Krishna Mutt, and the public meeting venue.

Approximately 20–30 vehicles were used during the rehearsal, and traffic was temporarily halted along the Adi Udupi–Bannanje–City Bus Stand–Kalsanka corridor to facilitate the exercise. Officials reported minor modifications to the route and adjustments to the layout of the programme stage as part of the final preparations.

Security measures intensified

With the Prime Minister’s visit expected to draw significant public attention, police presence has been strengthened across Udupi city and adjoining areas. Area domination exercises, vehicle checks, and foot patrols were carried out throughout the day.

Special teams have also been deployed to monitor sensitive zones, manage crowds, and coordinate emergency response measures. Senior officers have been stationed at key junctions to oversee security and ensure seamless movement of the convoy.

PM shares message on social media

Ahead of his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his delight in attending the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana event. He wrote:
“I am honoured to be visiting Sri Krishna mutt in Udupi to take part in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme on Friday.
