Police Respond to Viral Claim; Probe Continues, Mental Health Support Assured
Mangaluru: Local law enforcement in Mangaluru has issued a detailed clarification regarding a recent viral post by Sajith Shetty, who alleged that a “prime suspect” in an ongoing case remained unapprehended due to alleged influential ties.
Taking his claims into account, the police explored the possibility that another significant individual might be implicated. As part of standard investigative protocol, the Investigating Officer (IO) summoned Shetty to verify the identity of the alleged person and to assess if there was any credible backing for his statement.
“In any active case, the IO holds the authority to call upon anyone who might possess relevant knowledge,” stated the police. Accordingly, Shetty was asked to visit the station for an inquiry session.
During the interaction, Shetty reportedly confessed that he lacked substantial proof and that his post stemmed from personal motivations. His explanation was documented, after which he was released.
Authorities reiterated that all individuals, regardless of their online reach or popularity, are bound by legal accountability. “Anyone with potential links to a case—be it as a witness or otherwise—is legally obligated to assist with the inquiry,” they emphasized.
The police also confirmed that all procedures were carried out under the guidelines of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
In a video posted on June 20, Shetty expressed emotional distress. The department assured that, prioritizing community welfare, necessary psychiatric support and counseling will be provided to him based on his recent public disclosures.
