A charged atmosphere gripped Farangipete on May 27 when hundreds blocked the road in protest during the transport of Abdul Rahman’s body, who was fatally attacked in Irakodi, Kuriyal village of Bantwal.

The post-mortem was completed late Tuesday night at Yenepoya Hospital, Derlakatte, followed by the traditional ritual washing at a mosque in Kuthar Madani Nagar early Wednesday morning. After funeral prayers, the body was moved in an ambulance with police escort, accompanied by a large convoy of vehicles.

As the procession passed through Kuthar, Thokkottu, Pumpwell, and arrived at Farangipete, the crowd expressed outrage, chanting slogans condemning the brutal murder and demanding swift action from the authorities.

Police faced difficulty in managing the agitated protesters but eventually restored order, allowing the ambulance to proceed toward Rahman’s residence in Kolattamajalu, Bantwal Taluk.

The violent incident occurred Tuesday afternoon when Abdul Rahman and Kalandar Shafi were attacked with weapons while transporting sand in a pickup truck. Abdul Rahman died instantly from severe injuries, while Shafi remains critically ill in a private Mangaluru hospital.

Police have registered a case at Bantwal Rural Police Station, naming 15 accused, including locals Deepak and Sameeth, for murder and attempted murder charges.
