Protest Turns Violent in Mangaluru as Journalists Are Attacked
Chaos unfolded on Thursday morning during a demonstration organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Hindu Protection Committee near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru, as Hindutva activists attempted to assault reporters covering the protest.
The rally was staged to demand the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh. Tensions escalated when activists broke through police barricades and attempted to obstruct traffic. Law enforcement stepped in to prevent the blockade, resulting in a heated exchange between the protesters and the authorities.
In the midst of the turmoil, the protesters shifted their anger towards the journalists on-site. A video reporter from a private news outlet was allegedly shoved and faced an attempted assault by some of the activists.
As a result of the aggression, journalists collectively decided to boycott the coverage of the protest and vacated the scene in solidarity against the attack.
