Puttur: The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, held its Annual General Meeting with a focus on the topic “Technology in Education – Role of Parents.” The event underscored the importance of guiding children towards responsible technology use while encouraging their overall development.

Expert stresses responsible tech usage

Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Gajanraj Kumble, Principal of Sri Ramakunjeshwara College, Ramakunja, highlighted that rejecting technology is not a viable choice in the modern age. Instead, parents must ensure responsible technology use by setting examples and fostering an environment that promotes independent thinking. He urged parents to appreciate their children’s achievements and create opportunities for their growth.

College correspondent calls for parental guidance

Very Rev. Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St Philomena College, presided over the meeting. He emphasised that children should be mindful of their technology usage. He stressed that parents must play a guiding role, ensuring their children develop holistically—both physically and emotionally.

Annual reports and elections

The meeting began with a prayer led by Assistant Professor Varija and her team. PTA President Yathindranath Rai P.D. extended a warm welcome, while Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro gave the introductory remarks. PTA Secretary Prashanth Rai presented the annual report, and Treasurer Premalatha K. provided a detailed financial statement.

The selection of new office bearers was overseen by Dr Radhakrishna Gowda. Vice Principal Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar concluded the formal proceedings with a vote of thanks.

Dignitaries and cultural performances

The event was attended by Mr Gerald D’Costa, Vice President of the Parish Council of Mai De Deus Church and a member of the College Management Committee. Assistant Professor Pooja Shree V. Rai compered the programme.

The highlight of the event was a vibrant cultural performance featuring Chande Vadana and Chakratala by students of St Philomena College, which captivated the audience and added a festive note to the occasion.
