Mangaluru: A state-of-the-art, sensor-equipped driving test track is set to be established in Munduru, Puttur, with ₹8 crore sanctioned for the project. Spanning 5.4 acres, the facility will include an automated driving test track and training center, confirmed Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.
Initially planned for Alevoor, Udupi, the project was relocated to Puttur due to land constraints and forest land regulations. MLA Rai personally assessed and finalized Munduru as the ideal site. This marks the second sensor-based RTO track in Dakshina Kannada, boosting Puttur’s regional significance.
The Munduru RTO track will cater to residents of Puttur, Belthangady, Sullia, Kadaba, and Vittla, reducing their need to travel to Ullal for tests. The government has released ₹8 crore as the first installment, and construction will begin shortly, aiming for a swift completion and inauguration.
This initiative is set to generate employment for 100 locals, while also improving infrastructure in Munduru. The main road will be widened to four lanes, accommodating increased traffic flow. MLA Rai emphasized that the project would accelerate Puttur’s development, making it a key hub for transport services in the region.
