Rail Connectivity Boost, Road Projects, and Reforms: Capt Brijesh Chowta Updates
Mangaluru, April 12 – MP Capt Brijesh Chowta announced that the long-awaited extension of the passenger train service from Mangaluru Central to Subramanya Road will officially be flagged off today by Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna.
Previously terminating at Kabaka Puttur, the train’s extension fulfills a major public demand. “This move will greatly benefit daily commuters and working professionals,” Chowta noted.
New Train Schedule:
- Departure from Mangaluru Central: 4:00 am, arrival at Subramanya Road: 6:30 am
- Return: 7:00 am, reaching Mangaluru Central: 9:00 am
- Third trip departs Mangaluru Central: 5:45 pm
On infrastructure updates, Chowta confirmed that the ₹26 crore port connectivity road maintenance project (Surathkal to BC Road) has entered execution stage. The scope includes drainage, greenery clearance, markings, and road repairs—slated for completion before the monsoon. The Letter of Undertaking (LoU) has been issued.
He also highlighted the Wakf Amendment Bill, calling it a “landmark step,” citing concerns raised in the Anwar Mannipadi report. A CBI probe had been previously sought.
Further, 45 acres are expected to be acquired soon for Mangaluru Airport expansion, and momentum is building on the Shiradi Ghat road project, now in the DPR stage. Chowta emphasized fast-tracking state approvals to minimize environmental disruption.
A single-window system for disability pensions for ex-servicemen was also raised in Parliament. Lastly, the Coast Guard Academy in Mangaluru may receive cabinet approval within two months.
