Mangaluru: In light of relentless rainfall lashing the coastal belt, a holiday has been declared for anganwadis, primary, high schools, and pre-university colleges across Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, July 24 — with Sullia and Beltangady taluks being the only exceptions.
This precautionary move follows a heavy rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of intense downpours over the region.
On Wednesday and into early Thursday morning, several parts of Dakshina Kannada were hit by continuous rain, significantly affecting routine life and mobility.
Authorities have urged parents to ensure children stay away from low-lying zones, lakes, rivers, and the seashore. Fishermen have also been strictly advised not to venture into the sea due to hazardous conditions.
Meanwhile, taluk-level officers have been instructed to stay stationed at their headquarters. The district administration has alerted nodal officers across departments to be on standby and promptly address public complaints related to rain damage or emergencies.
The situation remains under close watch as authorities gear up for possible escalation.
