In view of continuous heavy rainfall, authorities in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district have declared a holiday for all anganwadis, primary, high schools, and pre-university colleges on Thursday, July 24—except in Sullia and Beltangady taluks.
The decision follows a weather alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting more intense rain in the region. On Wednesday and into Thursday morning, many areas across DK experienced severe downpours, disrupting daily life.
Parents have been urged to keep children away from low-lying zones, lakes, rivers, and seashores due to potential flooding or water-related hazards. Fishermen have also been strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
District officials have been placed on high alert. Taluk-level officers must stay at headquarters, and nodal officers assigned to various departments are instructed to remain vigilant and respond promptly to public grievances.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to the ongoing weather conditions.
