Reacting to the tragic aftermath of RCB’s IPL celebration in Bengaluru, Legislative Council member B.K. Hariprasad voiced strong criticism and urged financial support for the victims’ families.
“RCB is neither Karnataka’s nor India’s official team,” he said while speaking in Mangalore.
“It’s a private franchise, run by billionaire owners.”
Referring to the reported death toll of over 100,000 during the chaotic celebrations, he refrained from delving into specific details of the tragedy, stating:
“The Chief Minister will issue a formal response soon — I won’t speak much on yesterday’s incident.”
However, Hariprasad demanded immediate compensation:
“Let the owners — who are worth thousands of crores — come forward and provide ₹1 crore each to the victims’ families.”
He emphasized that corporate-backed teams must be held morally and financially responsible in such situations.
“They can afford it. If they can run a team, they can compensate the people affected.”
The statement adds to rising public pressure over the handling of large-scale events and the role of private entities in public safety.
