Bantwal – Continuous heavy rainfall has caused widespread destruction across Bantwal taluk, triggering landslides, compound wall collapses, and severe damage to homes and roads, leaving many residents displaced.
In Veerakamba village, a large boulder threatened homes due to soil erosion near the Kalladka-Vittal road. Revenue Inspector M N Ravi moved resident Sushila to safety. At Karopady’s Kalkaru, a tree fell on Rahmath’s house. A landslide blocked Amtadi-Bambila road, with PWD officer Arun Prakash overseeing clearance.
In Panemangalore, P B Aboobacker’s bathroom was destroyed. In Thenkakajekaru, Aysha P S lost a cowshed and compound wall. Nonaya’s home in Meramajalu sustained wall damage from a slide.
In Sangabettu, Roshan Sequeira’s toilet collapsed, while a mudslide hit Uma S Bhat’s home in Bimooda. Warij’s house in Punch was damaged and the family was relocated. Severe damage was also reported at Mahabal’s home in Borugudde.
Landslides near Sheena Parava’s house in Vitla Padnur prompted relocation. Kadoor-Kanjangad highway faced inspection and cautionary action. In Meramajalu’s Kallimaru, a slide endangered Poovappa Mundala’s house. In Marenemigudde, Muneer’s compound wall collapsed. Flooded plantations were cleared using a JCB in Budoli after a canal was blocked in Sunnadapoli.
Elsewhere, damage reports flowed in from Biliyur, Maninalkuru, Manchi, and Chennaitodi. Residents have been moved, and panchayat teams have issued alerts and aid.
In Kanyana, a loud sound with tremors panicked locals, though no damage or cracks were observed. The cause remains undetermined.
