Mangaluru: In a deeply saddening incident, a retired bank staffer, who had served nearly four decades at Canara Bank, Kodialbail, died by suicide within the bank premises on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Giridhar Yadav (61), a long-time resident of Alake, Mangaluru. Known for his dedication, Yadav had worked at the Kodialbail branch of Canara Bank for around 40 years before retiring recently. Despite his retirement, he often visited the branch out of affection and attachment to his former workplace.
On the previous day, Yadav reportedly left home for the bank but did not return, prompting his wife to file a missing person report at Bandar Police Station.
This morning, when the bank was opened, Yadav’s body was discovered hanging in the bank’s storeroom, indicating he had died by suicide. The reason behind this tragic act remains unclear, and police have launched an investigation at the scene.
Beyond his professional life, Giridhar Yadav was also a recognized state-level powerlifter, having won numerous medals in the sport. Reports suggest he had been dealing with health issues, though the nature and extent are yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the bank and among his acquaintances. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to understand the circumstances surrounding his death.
