Retired government employees in Mangaluru, led by Cyril Robert D’Souza, General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Karnataka State Retired Government Employees Forum, staged a protest on Tuesday demanding justice for their years of service. The protest, held in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha, centered on the demand for updated compensation calculations according to the Seventh Pay Commission for those who retired between July 1, 2022, and July 31, 2024.
Wearing black badges, the retirees expressed frustration at having to protest after their contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic. They highlighted that despite multiple appeals to the finance department, their concerns remain unaddressed. District Coordinator Stany Tauro emphasized the need for the government to take their demands seriously, while veteran retiree Vittal Shettigar joined the protest in solidarity.
