Sirsi: On Wednesday, the Retired Employees’ Forum in Shirasi petitioned the government, demanding equal benefits under the 7th Pay Commission for retired government employees and officials. The forum argues that the current implementation is unfair, as it excludes retirees from July 2022 to July 2024 from encashment of retirement allowances, pensions, and earned leave based on revised salaries.
The petition, submitted through the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, requests that the 7th Pay Commission’s benefits be applied retroactively from July 2022. The government has yet to address this, leaving retirees from this period disadvantaged. The forum highlights that retirement allowances, pensions, and other facilities are still calculated based on the 6th Pay Commission’s standards, which they deem unjust.
Additionally, the forum criticises the government’s disregard for the commission’s recommendations to expand medical facilities and raise salaries for employees over 70 by 10%. These omissions impact both retired employees and those nearing retirement. The forum urges the state government and employees’ unions to address these issues or face increased protests.
The petition was presented by prominent forum members, including District Unit Convenor B.D. Nayka, Co-Convener V.M. Bhat, Harihara Hegde, Narayana Nayka, and Retired Employees Association President M.N. Hegde.
