In the past, students aspiring to prepare for JEE, NEET, or CET had to migrate to urban areas due to the concentration of coaching institutes. Recently, however, taluk headquarters in Karnataka’s education hubs have seen a rise in coaching centers catering to these aspirants. This trend has made high-quality coaching accessible to students in their hometowns, reducing the need to relocate to cities.
The growing popularity of national-level competitive exams like JEE and NEET, along with Karnataka’s CET, has driven the establishment of coaching centers in taluks. Colleges in these areas now offer similar facilities, ensuring students can receive the necessary coaching without leaving their hometowns.
“Coaching centers focusing exclusively on JEE, NEET, and CET have opened in the last five years. There are about four to five centers in Puttur. These centers mainly assist middle-class students and those in government colleges who can’t afford expensive city coaching,” said Vignesh H, head of Absolute Learning Academy in Puttur. Despite this progress, some students still attend Sunday classes in Mangaluru for better quality coaching.
The establishment of these centers has also raised awareness about competitive exams among rural students. Gokulnath PV, chairman of Pragathi Education Foundation, highlighted the positive impact: “Our center provided coaching for students of Government PU College in Uppinangady, resulting in 75 students appearing for competitive exams with good results.”
Similar coaching centers have emerged in Moodbidri, Bantwal, and Belthangady, helping students access study materials and guidance previously unavailable to them.
