In a dramatic turn of events in the Bolanthur robbery case, where criminals posed as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials to raid a businessman’s house, an assistant sub-inspector from Kerala’s Thrissur district has been arrested along with three other accomplices. The gang tricked a businessman into handing over Rs 30 lakh in cash from Narsha, Bolanthuru, under Vittal police station jurisdiction.
The mastermind behind the robbery, 48-year-old Shafeer Babu, was serving at the Kodungallur police station in Thrissur. His arrest is part of a broader investigation into the case that dates back to January 3.
On that fateful day, the gang, posing as ED officials, raided the businessman’s house in Bolanthuru and made off with Rs 30 lakh. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three men from Kerala — Anil Fernandes (49), Sachin T S (29), and Shabin S (27), who are now in judicial custody.
A further probe uncovered the involvement of Sirajuddin (37) from Kolnadu, Bantwal, who was arrested on February 15. His revelations helped authorities arrest two more suspects: Mohammad Iqbal (38) from Bantwal and Mohammad Ansar (27) from Padil, Mangaluru.
With the arrest of Shafeer Babu, the key conspirator, the investigation has gained significant momentum. The district superintendent of police, Yathish N, IPS, has overseen the operation, deploying four specialized teams to track down the culprits.
The investigation continues, with more developments expected soon.
