Roof Collapse on Matsyagandha Express Sparks Renewed Calls for LHB Coaches
The roof of an AC coach on the Matsyagandha Express train recently collapsed, intensifying demands for the replacement of the old ICF coaches with newer, safer LHB coaches. This incident occurred just one week after MP Kota Srinivas Poojary appealed to the union railway minister to upgrade the coaches on the Mangaluru-Mumbai Matsyagandha Express.
Passengers from both the coastal region and Maharashtra have joined in calling for the immediate introduction of LHB coaches, emphasizing that despite 26 years of service, the train still operates with outdated ICF coaches. The continued use of these old coaches by Southern Railways has raised concerns about passenger safety, especially following the roof collapse.
MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, who sought detailed information about the incident, has assured the public that he will address the issue with Southern Railways and the union railway minister promptly. He emphasized the urgency of replacing the coaches to prevent further safety hazards.
A video showing the collapsed roof, along with the letter submitted by MP Poojary on August 23, has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention to the situation. The incident has fueled public frustration and renewed the push for the modernization of the Matsyagandha Express, underscoring the need for immediate action to ensure passenger safety.
