Sullia, Jun 15: Saraswati Naika, a 59-year-old woman from Thumbethadka in Nelluru Kemraje village, tragically passed away in a Mangaluru hospital after sustaining severe injuries three weeks ago. Saraswati, a daily wage laborer, lost her balance while harvesting cocoa and suffered a debilitating spinal cord injury.

The accident occurred as Saraswati was working in the fields, a common occupation in the region. Despite receiving medical treatment in Mangaluru, her condition worsened, and she succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Saraswati’s untimely death underscores the hazards faced by agricultural laborers and the urgent need for better safety measures in the field.

Saraswati is survived by her husband, Aithappa Naika, and their three children: two daughters and a son, Venugopala Thumbethadka, who is a member of the Nelluru Kemraje gram panchayat. Her family and community are mourning the loss of a dedicated worker and beloved family member.
