Mangalore: Father Robert Crasta, a senior priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mangalore, passed away on Monday at the age of 82, bringing to a close more than five decades of devoted service to the Church, Catholic education and the faithful across the diocese.

A native of Bela, Fr. Robert Crasta was ordained to the priesthood on December 1, 1971. Throughout his 54 years of priestly ministry, he served in a wide range of pastoral, educational and diocesan responsibilities, earning the respect and affection of clergy, religious and laity alike.

Five decades of faithful ministry

Fr. Robert Crasta began his priestly ministry as an assistant parish priest before taking on several important pastoral assignments. Over the years, he served the faithful in Omzoor, Urwa, Thanirbavi, Petri, Nidpalli, Sullia, Kateel and Fermai, where he was known for his compassionate pastoral care, humility and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.

His gentle approach and dedication to the spiritual welfare of parishioners left a lasting impact on the communities he served.

Dedicated educator and administrator

Alongside his pastoral ministry, Fr. Crasta made significant contributions to Catholic education. He served as Principal at Madanthyar and taught as a lecturer at Milagres College, Kallianpur, Puttur College and Pompei College, helping shape the lives of countless students through his wisdom, discipline and commitment to academic excellence.

His contributions extended beyond the classroom, as he played an active role in strengthening the educational mission of the Diocese of Mangalore.

A life of service remembered

Following his retirement, Fr. Crasta resided at St. Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, where he continued to be a source of encouragement and prayer for the diocesan community.

The Diocese of Mangalore mourns the loss of a devoted shepherd whose life reflected faithful service, simplicity and deep love for Christ and His Church.
