Mangaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah arrived at the Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday evening en route to Manjeshwar in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, where he participated in an election campaign.
The Chief Minister campaigned in support of AKM Ashraf, the sitting MLA and candidate backed by the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Leaders join campaign
Several senior leaders accompanied Siddaramaiah during his visit. Among those present were minister NS Boseraju, former ministers Ramanath Rai and Vinay Kumar Sorake, along with Puttur MLA Ashok Rai.
The presence of prominent Karnataka leaders highlighted the importance of the Manjeshwar constituency, which shares close geographical and cultural ties with coastal Karnataka.
Cross-border political significance
Manjeshwar, located in Kasaragod district, has a significant Kannada-speaking population, making it politically relevant for leaders from neighbouring Karnataka. Campaigning by leaders from the state often plays a role in influencing voters in the border region.
