Dharmasthala: The investigation into the alleged burial of bodies in Dharmasthala took a dramatic turn on Tuesday as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a search at the residence of activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi in Ujire, Belthangady taluk. Timarodi, who is currently out on bail in related cases, came under scrutiny as SIT officials brought accused Chinnayya along during the search operation.

Chinnayya reveals wider links

Initially presented as a witness, Chinnayya has since been arrested and subjected to rigorous interrogation. According to officials, he disclosed information suggesting links to Delhi, Mandya and Tamil Nadu. Investigators believe these leads could be crucial in unravelling the larger network connected to the case.

Earlier, Chinnayya made contradictory statements before the court—claiming to have exhumed a skull before later denying it during a subsequent hearing. This inconsistency led to his detention for sustained questioning, during which he reportedly revealed fresh information about the source of human remains.

Investigators stated that Chinnayya was sheltered by Timarodi, a factor that prompted the search of the latter’s residence. Evidence collection is ongoing, and the probe has now expanded beyond Dakshina Kannada district.

Sujatha Bhatt questioned in Ananya case

In a related development, SIT officials questioned Sujatha Bhatt, alleged mother of Ananya Bhatt, whose disappearance is linked to the larger Dharmasthala controversy.

Sujatha appeared before investigators at the SIT office in Belthangady on Tuesday morning following a summons. Officials stated that her testimony was essential to advance the probe amid conflicting accounts from witnesses and accused individuals.

Probe gathers momentum

The Dharmasthala case has drawn significant public attention, with multiple arrests, searches and interrogations already conducted. Investigators said they are piecing together evidence from various sources to establish a clear timeline and determine the facts behind the alleged burials and related cases.

Officials indicated that further searches and questioning of suspects are likely as the investigation progresses.
