In a major development in the Dharmasthala mass burial case, a key complainant witness guided the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to a suspected burial site near the Netravathi bathing ghat on Monday. The witness, who kept his face covered, was escorted to the area under heavy police protection.
Officials said the witness led SIT members deep into a wooded zone adjacent to the Netravathi River. The sensitive visit was also attended by three legal representatives and top SIT officers including MN Anucheth, Jitendra Kumar Dayama, and CA Simon.
Prior to the site visit, the complainant had been brought to the SIT’s office in Belthangady for further inquiry. Over the past two days, he had been deposing before investigators at the PWD Inspection Bungalow in Mallikatte, Mangaluru, as part of his formal statement recording.
DGP Pronab Mohanty, who heads the SIT formed by the Karnataka government, also visited Mangaluru on Sunday to oversee the progress of the investigation.
The controversial case revolves around allegations of mass burials, reported to Dharmasthala police on July 4. In response, the state government established the SIT on July 19 to pursue a detailed probe.
Meanwhile, SIT officials have also taken custody of crucial documents related to the case. Investigations are ongoing to verify the claims and uncover the facts behind the mass burial allegations.#DharmasthalaProbe #SITInvestigation #MassBurialCase #KarnatakaNews
