Assembly Speaker U T Khader visited the home of Abdul Rahiman in Kolathamajalu, Bantwal taluk, who was brutally killed on May 27. Speaking to reporters after consoling the bereaved family, Khader expressed deep sorrow and called the act a blow to Dakshina Kannada’s communal harmony.
Khader mentioned that he was on a Haj pilgrimage when the incident occurred. “This isn’t just a crime; it’s a threat to the region’s peaceful coexistence. No faith or civil society endorses such brutality,” he said. He has communicated with the district administration, police, and senior government leaders, including the chief minister and home minister, to ensure justice.
He confirmed the family’s appeal for all culprits to be arrested and strict preventive measures to be enforced. He assured that the government is committed to acting swiftly. Khader also stated that he would raise the issue of compensation with the district-in-charge minister and that legal procedures would guide the process.
The speaker revealed that discussions about senior police officer transfers had begun before his pilgrimage. Unfortunately, the crime occurred before the transfers could take effect. He said he had directed officers to address online threats seriously and had also requested proactive police leadership for the region.
Sending a strong message, Khader emphasized peace and unity. “Let’s not let hate overshadow humanity. Regardless of differences, divisive elements will face strict legal consequences,” he said, calling for collective efforts to maintain harmony.
