As SSLC exams commence across Karnataka, students in over ten districts are grappling not only with exam stress but also with extreme weather. Temperatures are soaring between 38°C and 42°C, coupled with rising humidity, making the examination period particularly challenging.

This year, 8,96,447 students are appearing for exams at 2,818 centers spread across 15,881 schools. Authorities have implemented CCTV surveillance and ensured basic amenities. However, officials admit that providing adequate ventilation, lighting, and functioning fans at every center remains a difficult task, especially under such harsh weather conditions.

Recognizing the risk posed by the intense heat, the focus has shifted towards ensuring an ample supply of drinking water at all exam centers. Prolonged study sessions and exam pressure, combined with the soaring temperatures, could affect students’ health, prompting the need for on-site medical support.

Health and family welfare commissioner Shivakumar K B stated that health department personnel will be stationed at exam venues two hours before exams begin and will remain until the conclusion. To counter dehydration, Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets will be distributed to students.

In Dakshina Kannada, district health officer Dr H R Thimmaiah confirmed that urban health centers will deploy staff in city areas, while primary health centers will cover rural locations, ready to assist students facing any health issues.

Authorities urge students to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, and take proper rest.
