Mangaluru: The Centre for Social Concern (CSC) at St Aloysius Pre-University College has long championed a mission of nurturing students into empathetic, socially conscious individuals. Rooted in values of inclusivity and justice, the Centre works throughout the year to build an environment where every person is respected, supported, and empowered.
Amid these ongoing efforts, Balamela 2025 stood out as a vibrant annual highlight—an event that beautifully blended enjoyment with meaningful social engagement.

Inauguration and participating schools

A total of 121 students from various institutions took part in Balamela 2025. The day began with a prayer song that set a tone of positivity and unity, reflecting the ethos of the CSC.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of:

  • Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Principal
  • Rev. Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, Campus Minister
  • Ms Kiran Shetty and Mr Inas Dias, Deans
  • Sr Cynthia D’Souza, Headmistress, St Mary’s Higher Primary School

The ceremony featured the lighting of the lamp and a lively welcome dance by CSC volunteers. Dignitaries, volunteers, and children then arranged coloured petals into a vibrant floral symbol, representing unity, diversity, and shared values.

Inspiring messages and cultural performances

In an engaging address, Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ shared an anecdote about three frogs attempting to climb a tree—illustrating the importance of perseverance and filtering out negativity. He encouraged children to remain focused on their goals despite challenges or criticism.

CSC volunteers added vibrancy to the event through dance, music, and interactive games. Students from visiting schools showcased their talents, earning appreciation and prizes. Every participant received a token of love, while gift hampers prepared by CSC volunteers added joy to the celebrations.

A memorable experience beyond the classroom

Balamela 2025 extended learning far beyond academic boundaries. The enthusiasm, smiles, and gratitude of the children reflected the profound impact of the programme.
Blending cultural vibrancy, educational value, and community engagement, the event grew into more than a celebration—it became a meaningful experience that broadened perspectives, nurtured unity, and reaffirmed the CSC’s unwavering commitment to empathy and social responsibility.
