Dakshina Kannada is set to welcome a new law institution as St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) announced the establishment of its School of Law, which will commence operations from the 2025–26 academic year.
The 145-year-old institution will offer two programs: a three-year LLB (Honours) and a five-year integrated BBA LLB (Honours), each with an intake capacity of 60 students. The Bar Council of India has officially recognized the university under Section 7(1)(i) of the Advocates Act, 1961, granting it the authority to confer law degrees.
Fr Praveen Martis, Vice-Chancellor, stated that the new law school will focus on experiential learning. The curriculum will include legal aid clinics, internships with law firms, NGOs, courts, and policy think tanks, allowing students hands-on exposure to legal practice.
A key highlight is the state-of-the-art law library, stocked with resources worth over ₹33 lakh and equipped with access to SCC Online, Manupatra, and Knimbus eLibrary, accessible remotely 24/7. The Koha Library Management System ensures seamless digital integration.
To build core legal skills, students will engage in debates, moot courts, case study discussions, and group projects. The school will also offer mentorship programs, pairing students with practicing lawyers and academic professionals to foster career readiness and deeper understanding of the legal field.
