Puttur: St. Philomena (Autonomous) College held a felicitation ceremony at the Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall on Saturday, celebrating rank holders, retired faculty members, and outstanding athletes. Organized by the Student Council, the event recognized academic and athletic excellence while paying tribute to dedicated educators.
Emphasizing integrity and time management
Former Principal Prof. Leo Noronha, the Chief Guest, underscored the importance of integrity, stating, “Being an honest individual is truly a noble virtue. Integrity is a fundamental value that profoundly impacts our lives and the lives of those around us.”
Presiding over the ceremony, Very Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mascarenhas, the Correspondent, encouraged students to manage their time wisely and make a positive impact. Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal, highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.
Honouring academic and sports achievements
The college felicitated Dr. P. S. Krishna Kumar, former Vice-Principal, for his invaluable contributions, with Dr. Edwin D’Souza delivering the felicitation note.
The rank holders recognized for their achievements were:
- Sudhanva Sham, Ritesh Rai, Arpita, Reena A.V., Sitara Sherin, Sushanth K.M., Chandraksha, and Hashini Singh.
The outstanding athletes honoured included:
- Spandana, Beula, Ranjith Kumar, Chaithrika, Yashwin, Mohammed Muhad, Prithvi, Shabarish Rai, and Varsha.
The achievements of these students were highlighted by faculty members, including Dr. Elias Pinto, Director of Physical Education, and various Assistant Professors.
Additionally, the Student Council office bearers—Heckson Fernandes (IIIBCA), Fathimath Athoofa (IIIBCA), and Simran Taj (IIIB.Com)—were honoured during the event.
A memorable gathering
The ceremony began with an invocation by Performing Arts students, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Radhakrishna Gowda V., Student Welfare Officer. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Spearl Fiona Pereira, and was compered by Mr. Prashanth Rai, Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration.
