Puttur: The Department of Computer Science and the Pinnacle IT Club of St Philomena College, Puttur, inaugurated the state-level IT fest ‘Pinnacle-25’ on Thursday at the college’s SJM Hall, drawing enthusiastic participation from across Karnataka.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sharan Chilimbi, renowned social media influencer and Tulu content creator, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Chilimbi highlighted the importance of active engagement in extracurricular activities, stressing that real learning often happens outside textbooks. “Participation matters more than winning. Every step you take to be part of such events puts you ahead,” he told the students, praising the college’s positive energy and vibrant culture.

Emphasis on creativity and growth

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College, served as the Guest of Honour. In his address, he urged students to think beyond imitation and embrace creativity and innovation. “True success comes to those who explore their inner capabilities through active involvement in events like these,” he said.

Presiding over the function, Very Rev. Lawrence Mascarenhas, the Correspondent of the college, inspired students to value both classroom learning and practical exposure. Drawing a parallel between theory and practice, he said, “Knowledge gained in classrooms and experience earned through competitions are equally essential. Learn, compete and grow with humility – it will take you far.”

Honouring student excellence

A highlight of the event was the felicitation of Ms Chaitali S, who secured the 4th rank in the BCA programme in the 2023–24 undergraduate exams under Mangalore University. Ms Sowmya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, delivered the felicitation speech, commending Chaitali’s achievement.

The formal programme began with a prayer led by Surabhi and team. Student coordinator Lenin welcomed the gathering, while Havyas U, another student coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was anchored by Srujana, a second-year BCA student.

Dignitaries present on the dais included Dr Vinaya Chandra, Controller of Examinations and Head of the Computer Science Department, and Dr Geetha Poornima K, Faculty Coordinator of Pinnacle-25. Their guidance and encouragement were pivotal in making the fest a success.

The event set the tone for a series of competitions, workshops and interactive sessions, aimed at enhancing technical skills, creativity and peer learning among participating students.
