Puttur: St. Philomena College’s Anti-Ragging Cell observed Anti-Ragging Day 2024 on Wednesday in the SJM Hall of the college. The event emphasized the critical need to raise awareness about the pervasive issue of ragging and its profound impact on individuals, families, and communities.

Dr. Norbert Mascarenhas, the Director of the Anti-Ragging Cell, led the program by addressing the assembled students and staff. In his speech, he highlighted the far-reaching consequences of ragging, which can inflict long-term psychological and emotional harm on victims. Dr. Mascarenhas urged the audience to adopt a zero-tolerance stance towards ragging, emphasizing that it is a societal issue requiring collective vigilance.

During the event, Dr. Mascarenhas provided an overview of the various anti-ragging committees that operate at national, state, and institutional levels. He stressed the importance of these bodies in curbing the menace of ragging and ensuring student safety. He also discussed the dual approach of punishment and rehabilitation as essential in addressing ragging incidents.
