A first-year BCA student was allegedly attacked by a stalker in her classroom at a private college in Mudabidare, Dakshina Kannada district. The incident occurred after the 19-year-old victim ended her relationship with the accused, identified as 20-year-old Manjunath.
Manjunath reportedly gained access to the college premises by posing as a newly admitted student during a scheduled break. He entered the classroom and attacked the victim with a pair of scissors, stabbing her in the neck. The attack took place around 9:50 am, according to police reports.
Inspector BN Sandesh of the Mudabidare police station stated that Manjunath deceived security personnel at the entrance by claiming to be a new student. Since the college had not yet distributed uniforms, he was allowed to proceed, ultimately reaching the classroom where he carried out the attack.
The other students in the classroom overpowered Manjunath and handed him over to the police. The victim sustained three injuries to her neck and was immediately taken to Alvas Hospital for treatment. She is now reported to be out of danger.
Manjunath and the victim are both from Tumakuru district and were reportedly classmates from the 8th to 12th standard. The two had been in a relationship for three years, but after the victim’s family became aware of the situation, they pressured her to end it and admitted her to the college in Mudabidare. Manjunath, enraged by her avoidance, decided to attack her.
The police have charged Manjunath under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) and he has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
