The state government has responded to appeals for financial assistance to repair rain-damaged schools in Dakshina Kannada by allocating Rs 1.9 crore for 106 schools. Heavy rains this academic year have affected 227 schools, with two deemed unsafe, prompting the relocation of students to safer facilities.

Belthangady and Bantwal, which receive the highest rainfall annually, recorded the most damage, affecting 68 and 51 schools, respectively. The total estimated damage cost for the academic year is nearly Rs 6 crore. Last year, over 250 schools were damaged, but no funds were allocated.
