Subrahmanya: Railway Line Repair Work at Thanhahagal Reaches Final Stage
The repair work for the landslide on the railway line between Edakumeri and Kadagarvalli on the Mangaluru-Bangalore route at Thanhahagal has reached its final stage. The trial run of the train engine at the location has been successful.
Repair work began immediately after the landslide, and as of Saturday, the barrier wall work at the site has been completed. Track restoration is nearly finished, with final-stage work currently in progress.
A wall constructed with iron nets and stacked rocks has been built to prevent future landslides. Additionally, rock assembling work is ongoing at another section. With nearly all repairs completed, a goods train was allowed to operate on Sunday within a 15km radius of the area where work is still underway.
Although not yet officially authorized by the railway department, officials have granted permission for trial runs of goods trains at speed. Once repairs are fully completed, passenger train traffic is expected to resume.
In other news, regarding land subsidence in Marnalli Doddappul of Sakaleshpur taluk in the Shiradi Ghat area due to continuous rains, vehicular traffic was permitted on Sunday following improvements in conditions. However, due to heavy landslides caused by highway widening work and prolonged heavy rains, only government buses are currently operating on an alternate road between Mangalore and Bangalore. Direct road traffic is eagerly awaited once safety can be assured for both passengers and vehicles.
