Mangaluru: Since the state government implemented the Gruha Jyothi scheme a year ago, 15.9 lakh out of 16.4 lakh applicants within the Mescom limits have become beneficiaries of free power supply. D Padmavathi, Managing Director of Mescom, stated that the scheme, which offers up to 200 units of free power to consumers, has been successfully implemented in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru districts under Mescom’s jurisdiction.
Between August 2023 and May 2024, the state government released an average of Rs 80 crore per month to Mescom for the Gruha Jyothi scheme. A total of 15,90,694 consumers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru districts have benefited from the scheme during this period, with the government releasing Rs 801.5 crore.
“Gruha Jyothi is an ambitious scheme of the state government that provides significant benefits to eligible beneficiaries. While Mescom has been implementing the scheme successfully, the government has also been timely in releasing the dues,” Padmavathi added.
