In a remarkable display of urgency and coordination, Hanif, an ambulance driver from KVG Hospital in Sullia, transported a critically ill 15-day-old baby from Mangaluru to Bengaluru’s Jayadeva Heart Institute in just 4 hours and 50 minutes.
The infant, diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, required immediate specialized cardiac treatment. Following urgent medical advice, the baby’s parents arranged for ambulance transport. Responding swiftly, Hanif reached the private hospital in Mangaluru, picked up the child at 4:00 PM on July 17, and reached the Bengaluru hospital by 8:50 PM the same evening.
The route taken—Mangaluru to Puttur, Sullia, Madikeri, Mysuru, and finally Bengaluru—was pre-communicated to relevant authorities and the public, enabling uninterrupted movement.
Key support came from the police department, highway patrol units, and fellow ambulance drivers, Shiva and Sameer. Their assistance in maintaining zero-traffic corridors and clearing the route proved vital in ensuring the baby reached the hospital without delays.
This extraordinary effort underscores the importance of rapid medical response, coordinated teamwork, and public cooperation in emergency health situations. Hanif’s timely action, backed by synchronized efforts from multiple departments and individuals, likely saved the infant’s life.
