Sullia: Theft Accused Escapes Police Custody During Medical Examination
In a dramatic incident, Karthik, an accused in a theft case from Kallugundi, Sullia, managed to escape from police custody on Saturday while undergoing a routine medical examination at the government hospital in Sullia. Karthik, a native of Tamil Nadu, had been wanted for a theft that occurred in Sullia a few years ago and was finally apprehended. Before being produced in court, the police brought him to the hospital for a mandatory medical check-up.
While two police officers were assigned to escort Karthik, one of the officers left to complete the formal paperwork. Taking advantage of the situation, Karthik slipped away from the custody of the remaining officer and made a daring escape. According to sources, he fled by jumping into a nearby plantation adjacent to the hospital grounds.
The local police immediately launched a search operation in the surrounding areas, which continued until late at night. However, by the time of the latest reports, Karthik remained at large. Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate the accused and bring him back into custody. This incident has raised concerns about security measures during such crucial moments of custody transfers.
