Surathkal & Mulki to get new improved railway stations
The foundation stone for extensive upgrades at Surathkal and Mulki railway stations, managed by the Konkan Railway Corporation, will be laid on January 30 by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.
At Surathkal station, platform resurfacing will be carried out at a cost of ₹47.52 lakh, while a new platform roof will be installed for ₹1.02 crore. Meanwhile, Mulki station, a key stop under Kilpadi Gram Panchayat, will receive platform surface enhancements worth ₹38.58 lakh and a roof structure worth ₹1.04 crore.
For years, residents have pushed for better amenities at these stations, as the lack of proper infrastructure has inconvenienced daily commuters. When the matter was raised with Capt Chowta, he actively pursued discussions with railway authorities and the ministry. His persistent efforts have now resulted in long-awaited improvements, addressing the concerns of local travelers.
Surathkal, home to prominent industries and educational institutions, attracts a large workforce. Additionally, frequent travel between Mumbai and Surathkal makes railway connectivity crucial. The station is also a major transit point for tourists heading to Mangaluru.
The event will be attended by Mangalore City North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, and officials from the Konkan Railway Corporation.
