In a significant development, the court has granted bail to 101 members of the Surathkal toll gate protest committee who have been involved in a seven-year-long struggle to shut down the toll gate.

The protesters, who faced a case filed by the former BJP government, appeared in court upon receiving summons and were subsequently granted bail. Former corporator Prajwal Kulai provided bail security using his land records.

Under the leadership of lawyer Dinesh Hegde Ulepadi, notable figures such as Charan Shetty, Ashwini Hegde, Nitin Kuttar, Annu Malik, Manoj Vamanjoor, Hasainar Gurupura, and Shewin Soloman represented the protesters in court.

Congress leader Mithun Rai, speaking after the bail was granted, emphasized the bipartisan support for the protest, involving members from various political parties. He expressed confidence in achieving victory, citing ongoing discussions with the district in-charge minister to withdraw the case.
