A Mangaluru court has sentenced Hanumanth Kamath to 90 days of imprisonment for contempt of court. The case arose after Kamath was found violating a restraining order that barred him from interfering in the administrative activities of Sri Vitobha Rukumayi Devara Bhandara temple on V T Road, Mangaluru.
The injunction, sought by temple trustee M. Varadaya Prabhu, prohibited Kamath from claiming to be a trustee or participating in the temple’s operations. However, Kamath allegedly defied the court’s directive, continuing to assert himself as a trustee and interfering in administrative matters.
Kamath’s appeal against the restraining order was dismissed by the local court, and a subsequent writ petition in the High Court also failed to provide relief. After reviewing the evidence, the court ruled that Kamath had wilfully violated its order, leading to his conviction for contempt.
Senior advocate P. Ranjan Rao represented the petitioner in the case. The court’s decision reinforces the importance of adhering to judicial directives.
